I'm Shelby, the face behind Project You. I'm a mother, a wife, a friend, a daughter. I offer Health and Lifestyle coaching for those looking to take control of their health and wellbeing goals and make impactful change. I also offer sleep coaching for insomniacs, with real strategies that help clients to leave insomnia-land forever. With a background in public health, I'm a behaviour change specialist and now Health and Sleep Coach, here to walk alongside you in your wellbeing journey.
I've always had gut sensitivities and feedback from my body when something hasn't agreed. As an ex-professional athlete, the chronic stress and physical demands I placed on my body left me with a weakened immune system, and constant viruses and illness. I still retained 'the only way through, is through' attitude, which I would only learn later in life, doesn't serve me.
In my early twenties, I began to feel the ramifications of 'pushing through' and this presented with a loss of my menstrual cycle, skin breakouts, burnout and major fatigue. I would soon be diagnosed with endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), as well as Panic Attack Disorder (PAD).
In my early thirties, I thought I was in the best shape of my life and was surprised when pregnancy and postpartum gave me the biggest reality check. With my gut health being challenged, it presented with multiple sensitivities, including chronic diarrhoea and bloating plus a variety of other symptoms including insomnia, chronic headaches, hair loss, skin rashes, joint and nerve pain, neuropathy and brain fog. This truly began my journey to heal myself within.
After seeing countless doctors and being referred to specialists, I still had no tangible answers. Pharmaceuticals were prescribed for the 'mystery illnesses' I had, and I was encouraged to return to antidepressants and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) to support my mental health. As much as I see value in the use of pharmaceuticals when needed, these medications only masked my symptoms and didn't lead me to the outcomes I desired, which was to be truly well again.
Through months of searching, I found a functional holistic practitioner, who worked with me to find the root causes of my issues and supported my self-healing journey. Through functional medicine testing, rest, nutritional changes, stress reduction, supplementation and adjustments to my physical activity, I have made huge strides in my healing and my health and wellbeing journey.
Alongside my journey back to health, my insomnia journey also intensified. After trying every strategy for years (sleeping pills, melatonin, blackout curtains, teas and tinctures etc) to no avail, I finally found Daniel Erichsen (The Sleep Coach School) who helped me leave insomnia-land forever and find peaceful sleep once again. I went from a place of fear, exhaustion, desperation and physical pain to understanding insomnia, finding self compassion and sleeping peacefully. Now, I've completed my qualification with the Sleep Coach School, so I'm able to help clients too, find peaceful sleep again.
With my background in Health, Human Performance and Sport and working in the public health setting, I have always been called to support others in improving health and wellbeing outcomes. I am a certified PreKure holistic Health & Lifestyle Coach, certified Sleep Coach for insomniacs, Mental Health First Responder and a Reformer Pilates Instructor. I am also currently undertaking clinical nutrition studies and furthering my functional practitioner learnings.
I am a firm believer in the power of the human body to heal itself. This is even more achievable when our body is appropriately looked after. I trust in the philosophy that prevention is cure, and I apply this in my work with my clients to educate them and support their restoration to holistic wellness.
I am fortunate to reside in the beautiful Wānaka, New Zealand, where I now support others in unlocking their potential and taking control of their health and wellbeing. I look forward to walking alongside you and supporting you to be the healthiest, happiest and most sustainable you.

Insomnia & Sleep coaching
Insomnia can leave you feeling hopeless and defeated, like you've tried everything...with no success.
Whether you've been in insomnia-land for a few months or many years, it is debilitating and frustrating. Together, we will unpack insomnia, learning about what it is, and implementing strategies to leave it for good.
As your sleep coach, I will walk alongside you with education, developing new mindset behaviours, implementing strategies that work and supporting you through the journey back to peaceful sleep.
